Garry is a mathematics teacher who introduced LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT as an after school enrichment at Meole Brace School in Shrewsbury in 2007. With support from Ashley Green, he coached a team for the FIRST® LEGO® League 2008 Climate Connections challenge.
Using Constructionism - a theory of learning developed by Seymour Papert (co-creator of the LOGO programming language and author of "MINDSTORMS: Children, Computers, and Powerful Ideas") - and with technical support from Ashley Green, Garry has developed a number of practical and engaging mathematical activities and open-ended challenges using the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT robotics system.
The constructionist approach to learning naturally leads the teacher to work alongside the students so that they learn together.
